META o.s. – Association for the Opportunities of Young Migrants was established in 2004 with the aim to support young immigrants living in the Czech Republic. The clients of the association are young foreigners between the ages of 6 and 39 - regardless of their legal status.
Since 2006 the core activity of META is running A Consultancy and Information Centre for Young Migrants (PIC). This is where social workers are available to clients to consult and assist them in the decision making process for further studies, job opportunities, and tackling difficulties arising from their specific social and legal status in the Czech Republic. Part of the social consultancy service is the opportunity to get assistance from a volunteer who can help clients to achieve their goals – mostly in the form of tutoring and assistance in exam preparation. In addition to professional social consultancy and various educational activities provided under the volunteer program, we also offer Czech language courses lead by experienced teachers, and preparatory courses for admission exams. In PIC the clients can also make use of a study room with a library, and a PC with internet connection.
The Mission of META is to support the personal development of young immigrants in the areas of education that we consider to be fundamental to their successful integration into the community. Our activities are aimed at encouraging the development of a mutually beneficial relationship between foreigners and the wider community.
By providing professional social consultancy and educational activities we attempt to support our clients by:
- Developing their ability to orientate themselves in the Czech education system.
- Integration into the Czech education system.
- Studies with the goal of successful graduation.
- Making the most of their qualifications when entering the labour market (taking into account the education achieved in their country of origin).
- Further education to increase employment opportunities.
We also actively contribute to the establishment and the improving quality of opportunities for foreigners with regard to access to education and job opportunities through the following activities:
- Researching opportunities and monitoring problems in connection with education and job opportunities for foreigners.
- Increasing awareness among professionals and the general public about the issues associated with migration and the education of foreigners.
- Developing expert, conceptual, and methodological strategies, both on our own and in cooperation with other specialists, toward dealing with these issues both in the Czech republic and abroad.
- Continuing training of our employees in order to ensure we provide the highest quality service possible.
META was registered as a civic association by the Ministry of Interior in December 2004. Its identification number is 26982633.
